The Nikon F5 is the second-to-last professional film camera Nikon ever made, the penultimate entry in a decades-spanning series that started with the original F in 1959. It is an excellent value: it's more robust than the casual-to-serious amateur offerings of the 1990s, has most of the advanced features Nikon developed in the 1990s, including a major breakthrough in metering (Nikon's 3-D color matrix meter), but it doesn't command the premium of the final destination point (the F6), thus keeping it affordable.
The battery grip on this camera is integral. The camera takes eight AAs and can be used with an optional rechargeable battery unit.
